Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing Holds Talks with his Brazilian Counterpart Celso Amorim

On March 22nd, 2004, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing met in Diayutai State Guest Hotel with his Brazilian counterpart Celso Amorim. The two sides exchanged views in an in-depth manner on such issues as bilateral relations, international affairs and the reform of the United Nations.

Li Zhaoxing said that bilateral relations had been developing very smoothly ever since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries three decades ago. The strategic partnership between the two sides was getting increasingly enriched and bilateral cooperation in various fields had been productive. The two countries had kept close coordination with and shown mutual support for each other in international affairs. The Chinese side is thankful to Brazil for releasing a statement clearly announcing its adherence to the one-China policy and its support for China's reunification cause. Li Zhaoxing said that the Chinese government attached great importance to developing relations with Brazil. Since this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, he hoped that the two sides could make joint efforts to turn it into a new starting point for the development of bilateral relations.

Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim expressed his satisfaction with bilateral relations and the progress in bilateral cooperation in various fields. He said that Brazil gave high priority to developing relations with China and would like to enhance bilateral cooperation in politics, economy and trade so as to push forward the strategic partnership between the two countries to a new height.
