On September 8, 2011, British Prime Minister David Cameron met in London with Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan, who is here for the fourth Economic and Financial Dialogue (EFD) between China and the UK.

Wang first conveyed the cordial greetings and good wishes from Premier Wen Jiabao to Cameron. He said that focusing on China-UK economic and trade relations, the two sides at this round of dialogue exchanged in-depth views on a wide range of topics including the world economic situation, macroeconomic policies, financial cooperation, trade and investment and achieved positive results. Both sides have well implemented the important consensus reached by leaders of the two countries. Wang said he hoped that both sides would continue to deepen cooperation in such fields as economy and trade, investment, finance and especially infrastructure construction to promote China-UK economic relations to a new height. The vice premier said the top priority is to promote strong and sustainable economic growth in the now very complex international economic situation. He said China appreciated Britain's position on free trade and hoped that both sides would work together to promote a healthy development of the China-UK comprehensive strategic partnership.

Cameron expressed welcome for Wang to co-chair the EFD here and spoke highly of the positive results of the dialogue. Cameron said China is making greater contributions to the world economy, and that to develop UK-China relations is a priority of his government. He said the two economies are highly complementary and Britain is willing to work with China in the fields of services, retail, finance and high technology. The success of this round of dialogue fully shows Britain and China are growing partners. The British side is also willing to maintain communication and coordinate positions with China through various dialogue mechanisms, said Cameron. Both as important G20 members, he said, Britain and China should work together to seek a positive outcome of the G20 Cannes Summit scheduled in November in France in promoting global economic recovery and opposing trade protectionism.

On the same day, Wang Qishan and British Chancellor of the Exchequer Osborne attended a forum of Chinese and British entrepreneurs and also visited the London Olympic venues.
