On January 9, 2009, China and Japan held their ninth strategic dialogue in Tokyo. Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wang Guangya and Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Mitoji Yabunaka attended the dialogue. The two sides exchanged views on bilateral ties and major international and regional issues in a candid, pragmatic and in-depth manner and reached a wide range of consensus.
Both sides agreed that under the current international situation, China and Japan, as influential countries in Asia and the world, should strengthen communication, coordination and cooperation on bilateral, regional and global issues and push for new development of China-Japan strategic reciprocal relations in 2009, in a bid to contribute to peace, stability and development of Asia and the world at large.
On the same day, Wang also met respectively with Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone, as well as the leaders of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), the Democratic Party of Japan and the New Komeito Party.
