On 17 October 2004, State Councillor Tang Jiaxuan arrived in Islamabad, kicking off his official goodwill visit to Pakistan. After getting off the plane, Tang Jiaxuan immediately headed for Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, where he expressed his condolence on the death of Wang Peng, the engineer from China National Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Group Corporation and the victim of the recent kidnap incident, and called on the representatives of Chinese institutions in Pakistan.
Tang Jiaxuan wrote down in the book of mourning: I would like to express my condolence on the death of Comrade Wang Peng who has devoted his life to the cause of China-Pakistan friendship.
During his meeting with managing staffs from the Gomal Zam program of China National Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Group Corporation and the Gwadar Port program of China Harbour Engineering Group Company and other representatives of Chinese institutions, Tang Jiaxuan conveyed CPC General Secretary Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiaobao's deep condolence over the death of Comrade Wang Peng and cordial greetings to Chinese citizens in Pakistan. He said Comrade Wang Peng and Comrade Wang Ende betrayed no fear and remained calm and brave in the face of danger, which demonstrated the excellent quality of Chinese builders.
Tang Jiaxuan said that the CPC Central Committee and the State Council attach great importance to the safety of Chinese citizens overseas, bear in mind the well-being, health and security of all Chinese people, and would never allow terrorism to threat the safety of Chinese citizens. The Chinese Government requests the Pakistani side to further tighten security measures and ensure the safety of Chinese people in Pakistan. The Chinese side, on its part, will exercise close cooperation with the Pakistani side in the prevention and fight against terrorism.
Representatives from China National Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Group Corporation and China Harbour Engineering Group Company extended, on behalf of all the Chinese builders in Pakistan, gratitude to the CPC Central Committee and the State Council for their cordial greetings and said they would continue to exert arduous efforts to make new contributions to China-Pakistan friendship.
