On September 13, 2004, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, who is on a visit to the Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo, talked over phone with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Ban Ki-Moon of the Republic of Korea (ROK) upon request.

The two sides exchanged views on the resolution of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula within the framework of the Beijing Six-Party Talks. Ban Ki-Moon also reiterated that the ROK government would cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in properly addressing related issues.
