On May 19, 2004, Vice Minister Zhang Yesui met with Dr. Zhang Suixin, Managing Director of Volkswagen (China) Investment Company Ltd. and Chief Representative of Volkswagen Group. Dr. Zhang delivered a donation of 400,000 yuan to Vice Minister Zhang Yesui on behalf the Volkswagen Group in a bid to help finance poor students and improve educational equipment in four schools in Malipo County and Jinping County in Yunnan Province, which have been receiving assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regularly.

Vice Minister Zhang Yesui expressed his gratitude to Volkswagen Group for their warm and hospitable reception for Premier Wen Jiabao when he visited Audi AG of Volkswagen Group in Ingolstadt, Bavaria during his German tour in May. He also expressed his respect for Volkswagen Group for its long-term commitment to developing China-Germany economic and trade relations and its care for China's poverty alleviation efforts. Vice Minister Zhang Yesui thanked the group for its donation on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the people of Malipo County and Jinping County.
