On August 24, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka held the 2026/2027 Chinese Government Scholarship Awarding Ceremony. Counselor Ji Lili and Deputy Minister of Education Madhura Seneviratne jointly presented admission letters to the scholarship recipients.

Ji Lili noted that educational cooperation is an important bond in China-Sri Lanka relations. Young people of both countries, through exchanges, enhance mutual understanding and bring people-to-people ties closer. She encouraged the recipients to cherish the opportunity, study diligently, and become inheritors and promoters of China-Sri Lanka friendly cooperation.

Madhura Seneviratne said that China is an important partner for Sri Lanka in the field of education, placing importance on cooperation in traditional education while actively assisting in the digital development of education. He urged the students to study hard, apply what they have learned to national development, and serve as ambassadors of Sri Lanka-China friendship.

This year, 17 students were awarded the scholarship and will pursue bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degrees at Chinese universities. Two student representatives delivered speeches, expressing gratitude to the Chinese side and pledging to cherish the opportunity and carry forward the Sri Lanka-China friendship.
