On July 15, Ambassador Qi Zhenhong and Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Nalaka Kaluwewe, signed the Exchange of Letters on the China-aid 2027 School Uniform Material Project.

Nalaka Kaluwewe conveyed Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya’s sincere appreciation to the Chinese government and people for their generous assistance, describing the project as another significant achievement of the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Sri Lanka and China. He noted that the school uniform fabric provided by China embodies fairness, dignity, and hope, and will benefit 4.1 million students across the island. The project will help promote educational equity and ease the financial burden on families. China has consistently been a trusted and dependable partner of Sri Lanka, and its continued support through the provision of school uniform fabric reflects China’s steadfast support for Sri Lanka’s education sector and the well-being of its children, while also demonstrating the enduring friendship between the two countries.

Ambassador Qi said that this year’s assistance marks the fifth consecutive year that China has provided school uniform material assistance to Sri Lanka. China stands ready to continue supporting Sri Lanka in improving educational conditions and fostering a more equitable and inclusive learning environment, so that every child can walk into school with confidence. As generations of students grow up, each school uniform will become a cherished memory of their school days and a vivid testament to the enduring friendship between China and Sri Lanka.
