On April 7, Minister Counselor Mr. Zhu Yanwei led a team to attend the “Culture and Care for Young Hearts, Together in Friendship” school supplies donation event at the Hemamali Balika Vidyalaya school in Colombo. The team donated school supplies to students and food packages to the underprivileged families. Ms. Priyanthi Renuka Rathnayaka, representative of the district education office, Principal Ms. Priyangani Perera along with over 400 teachers, students and parents participated in the event.

Mr. Zhu stated that China and Sri Lanka are good friends and reliable partners who always support each other. Under the joint guidance and efforts of the leaders of both countries, the two sides are working together to build a China–Sri Lanka community with a shared future. The Chinese government has always attached great importance to the development of education in Sri Lanka. For four consecutive years, China has provided uniform materials to all schools across the country, benefiting millions of students. As the Sri Lankan New Year approaches, the Embassy has prepared learning materials for students and food packages for families in need, aiming to help children study with peace of mind, grow up healthy, and make contributions to national development and carry forward the traditional friendship between China and Sri Lanka in the future.

Students waved handmade Chinese national flags to warmly welcome the delegation. Principal Perera and student representatives expressed their gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for its generous donation, stating that China always extends a helping hand when Sri Lanka is in need. They said that today’s donation is a vivid reflection of the profound friendship between the peoples of the two countries. They sincerely thanked the Chinese government for its long-standing support for education in Sri Lanka and expressed their hope that Sri Lanka–China friendship will continue to reach new heights.
