On February 5, Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong and Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya jointly attended the handover ceremony of the China-aided comprehensive refurbishment project of Sri Lanka Superior Courts Complex. Ambassador Qi also signed the handover certificate with the Justice and National Integration Minister Harshana Nanayakkara. The Chief Justice of Supreme Court, the Attorney General, the President of Court of Appeal, the Inspector General of Police, Counsellor Tang Yandi of the Chinese Embassy were also present at the event.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the Chinese government and people for their generous assistance, noting that the comprehensive refurbishment project stands as a strong testament to the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries. She said the refurbished judicial complex will continue to provide enduring support for fairness and justice in Sri Lankan society.

Ambassador Qi stated that following the comprehensive refurbishment, the Superior Courts Complex has been completely revitalized. The project included structural reinforcement and fully enhanced seismic resistance, along with comprehensive upgrades to fire safety, air-conditioning, power supply, and intelligent systems—making the building virtually brand new. He expressed confidence that it will provide Sri Lanka’s judicial community with highly satisfactory, comfortable, and modern office facilities and working environments. Emphasizing that China–Sri Lanka friendship has stood the test of time, China will continue to support Sri Lanka’s economic and social development to the best of its ability.
