On January 22, Ambassador Qi Zhenhong paid calls on Chief Prelate of Asgiriya Chapter Most Ven. Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Mahanayake Thero and Chief Prelate of Malwatta Chapter Most Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Mahanayake Thero in Kandy.

Ambassador Qi Zhenhong extended New Year greetings to both Mahanayake Theros and expressed his condolences over the disaster situation in Kandy, reiterating China's firm support for Sri Lanka's post-disaster reconstruction. The two Mahanayake Theros thanked the Chinese government and people for providing timely and effective assistance to the disaster-stricken people in Sri Lanka. They stated that the Sri Lankan Buddhist community firmly adheres to the one-China policy and is willing to continue to deepen friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two Buddhist communities, carrying forward the traditional friendship between Sri Lanka and China.
