"China Culture Day – Wushu 2025" Successfully Held in Colombo

On December 3, the "China Culture Day – Wushu 2025" , hosted by the Chinese Embassyin Sri Lanka and organized by the Wushu Federation of Sri Lanka, was grandly held at the Elphinstone Theatre in Colombo. Ambassador Qi Zhenhong and Hon. Sunil Kumara Gamage, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports of Sri Lanka, attended and delivered speeches. Over 500 guests, including Sri Lankan friends from various sectors, wushu enthusiasts, as well as representatives from Chinese enterprises and overseas Chinese communities in Sri Lanka, gathered to enjoy a cultural feast where strength and beauty converged.

Ambassador Qi Zhenhong first expressed profound condolences for the recent natural disasters in Sri Lanka and outlined the assistance provided by various sectors of Chinese society to help Sri Lanka overcome the floods. Ambassador Qi stated that holding the "China Culture Day – Wushu 2025" event at this challenging time carries special significance. It not only demonstrates the philosophical essence of Chinese Wushu, which "balances strength with softness and promotes harmony and coexistence," but also serves as a vivid testament to the mutual support and solidarity between the Chinese and Sri Lankan peoples in the face of adversity.

On behalf of the Sri Lankan government, Hon. Gamage sincerely thanked the Chinese government and people for the generous assistance in the immediate aftermath of the disaster, stating that this fully reaffirmed the enduring friendship between the two countries. He expressed hope for further strengthening cooperation with China in various fields of sports.

During the performance, from the steady and flowing movements of Tai Chi and the powerful, swift demonstrations of broadsword and staff techniques, to the expressive Drunken Fist and Drunken Sword, the thrilling Sanda combat, and the adorable children's wushu performances, over an hour of splendid presentations fully showcased the depth and breadth of Chinese martial arts. The atmosphere was enthusiastic, with continuous applause from the audience. The event received extensive coverage from Chinese media such as Xinhua News Agency and China Daily,Dinamina, as well as over ten mainstream Sri Lankan media outlets including SLRC, Daily News, Daily Sun, and SL Sports.
