On October 31st, the Ambassador Cup 2025 Invitational University Badminton Championship opened at the University of Colombo. Ambassador QiZhenhong, Hon. Anil Jayantha Fernando, Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Prof. Indika Karunathilake, Vice Chancellor of Colombo University attended.

Ambassador Qi Zhenhong stated that the championship is not only a grand event for exchanging techniques and challenging the limits, but also a platform to deepen mutual understanding and foster communication and integration between different cultures. He expressed hope that all players would fully showcase their finest competitive state, uphold the spirit of fair play and jointly write a splendid new chapter in the friendly exchanges between China and Sri Lanka with their rackets.

Prof. Karunathilake remarked that China's long-standing and generous assistance to Sri Lanka's education sector has injected strong momentum into the development of higher education in Sri Lanka. The University of Colombo will seize this opportunity to continue to leverage its bridging role in educational and scientific research exchanges and contribute to consolidating and advancing the friendly relations between China and Sri Lanka.

This is the third Chinese Ambassador Cup Badminton Championship hosted by Sri Lankan university. The event is sponsored by Chinese enterprises and attended by over 100 faculty members and students from 11 universities across Sri Lanka.
