Hong Kong visa regulations stipulate that most applications must be filed online through the designated portal. The application to the Embassy can be recognized as a supplemental measure.

The Chinese Embassy can grant and issue Hong Kong Transit Visa (stay not more than 7 days) to the following Sri Lanka passport holders:

1) Sri Lankan businessman who will attend Canton Fair or other exhibitions in Chinese mainland and can prove he/she has attended such activity before.

2) Sri Lankan who is residing in the third country or region (Document of permanent residency needed).

The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka could grant and issue Hong Kong Visit visa (stay not more than 14 days ) to the following Sri Lanka passport holders:

1) Government staff of Sri Lanka (recommendation letter needed);

2) Sri Lankan who has made multiple visits to Hong Kong (previous Hong Kong Visa copies needed);

3) Sri Lankan who is residing in the third country or region (residence visa or permit needed);

4) The spouse and children of the above people (marriage certificate and birth certificate needed).

For applicants who do not meet the aforesaid eligibility criteria, we recommended that applications be submitted directly to the Immigration Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (https://www.immd.gov.hk/eng/forms/hk-visas.html)

If the applicant insists and agrees to assume the risk of the application being rejected, our staff may still accept application materials. Please note that any resulting time delays will be at your own responsibility.

For administrative convenience, the Embassy might receive your application documents upon your initial visit to the consular office and will provide you with a written list of required additional documents at once. Formal assessment of the application will only commence once all required documentation has been completed and submitted.

Even if an application is returned on the grounds that it does not fall within the Embassy's acceptance scope, it shall be clearly understood that this does not constitute a formal visa refusal. The applicant remains free to apply directly to the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong SAR. The Hong Kong SAR Government retains full authority for final adjudication and review of all visa applications. Applications referred to the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong SAR for processing shall normally take approximately 30 days to complete; no expedited or priority processing service is available for such cases.
