Notice of the Chinese visa requirements and visa processing

The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Sri Lanka accepts visa applications with the following details:

I. Visa categories 

1.C 

Issued to foreign crew members of means of international transportation, including aircraft,trains and ships, or motor vehicle drivers engaged in cross-border transport activities, or to the accompanying family members of the crew members of the above-mentioned ships.

2.D 

Issued to those who intend to reside in China permanently. 

3.F 

Issued to those who intend to go to China for exchanges, visits, study tours and other 

activities. 

4.G 

Issued to those who intend to transit through China. 

5.M 

Issued to those who intend to go to China for commercial and trade activities. 

6.Q1/Q2

Q1:Issued to those who are family members of Chinese citizens or of foreigners with

Chinese permanent residence and intend to go to China for family reunion, or to those 

who intend to go to China for the purpose of foster care. The intended duration of stay 

in China exceeds 180 days. 

Q2:Issued to those who intend to visit their relatives who are Chinese citizens residing in China or foreigners with permanent residence in China. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days. 

7.R 

Issued to those who are high-level talents or whose skills are urgently needed in China. 

8.S1/ S2  

S1:Issued to the spouses, parents, sons or daughters under the age of 18 years and parents-in-law of foreigners working or studying in China for the purpose of long-term visit, or to those who intend to visit China for other private reasons (intended duration of stay 

exceeding 180 days). 

S2:Issued to those who intend to visit their family members who are foreigners working 

or studying in China. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days. 

9.X1/X2 

X1:Issued to those who intend to study in China for a period of more than 180 days. 

X2:Issued to those who intend to study in China for a period of no more than 180 days.

10.Z

Issued to those who intend to work in China. 

11.J1/J2

J1:Issued to resident foreign journalists of foreign news organizations stationed in China. 

The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days. 

J2:Issued to foreign journalists who intend to go to China for short-term news coverage. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days. 

Note:

a, Foreigners who are subject to various mutual visa exemption agreements do not need to apply for a visa.

b, Foreign nationals with permanent residence status in China do not need to apply for a visa.

c, Holders of all kinds of valid residence permits do not need to apply for a visa.

d, Holders of valid APEC business travel cards (not including virtual card) to engage in business activities in China do not need to apply for a visa. 

e, Visa is not necessary for the foreign travelers transiting through China less than 24 hours.

II required Documents  

1.Visa Application form and photo: Visa Application form completed online and recently-

taken colour passport photo against a light background(front view, without a crown, size: 48mm×33mm).

2.Original passport with at least six months of remaining validity and blank visa pages, 

and a photocopy of the bio data page.

3.Lawful arrival record of entering into Sri Lanka(such as visit visa,or residence visa,or visa exemption according to mutual agreement) for foreigners from the third countries.

Note: 

a, For the purpose of emergency humanitarian need, such as for attending funerals or visits to critically ill relatives in China, the applicants shall submit the identity documents of the deceased or ill relative(e.g. foreigner's passport, etc.), death certificate or a certificate of diagnosis, and critical illness notice issued by a hospital, proof of kinship, etc.

b, For students who got admission before 2022 need to submit original Studying Certificate issued by the Campus.

For students who get admission in or after 2022 need to submit original JW201/202 and Admission Notice.

If you can not submit above originial documents, the enrollment Agencies in China should send the information of the students(please mention the name of the school, name and passport number of each student in the email)using designated email address  to consulate_lk@mfa.gov.cn.

III Application Procedure

Visa applicants are required to log on http://cova.cs.mfa.gov.cn/ and fill in the visa application form online. Download and print the application form (full form), sign on the confirmation page, and send it together with other required documents to  the Visa Office of Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka within your appointment date and time.

IV Processing time

Visa processing generally takes 4 working days. Please arrange your time properly.
