Notice Regarding Adjustments in Chinese Visa Application Procedures(Starting from September 28,2022)

Starting from 00:00, September 28,2022, Beijing time, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka will adjust the scope of accepted visa application and application procedures as follows:

 I Main adjusted requirements

1.Foreign nationals who intend to work in China can apply for a work visa with the Notification Letter of Foreigner’s Work Permit in the PRC or a valid Foreigner’s Work Permit in the PRC. The Invitation Letters (PU or TE) issued by relevant local authorities are no longer required.

2.Foreign nationals who go to China for the purpose of resumption of operation and production (including Foreign nationals already working in China), their family members may apply for family reunification visa or visitor visa with a certificate of kinship. The Invitation Letters (PU or TE) issued by relevant local authorities are no longer required.

3. Family members of Chinese citizens or relatives of foreign nationals with permanent residence status in China may apply for family reunification visa or visitor visa, besides emergency humanitarian purpose for funerals or visits to critically ill relatives in China.

4.Foreign students who intend to study in China for a period of more than 180 days can apply for X1 visa, and their family members may apply for family reunification visa or visitor visa with a certificate of kinship. 

II Scope of accepted visa application

1.Foreign nationals who go to China for the purpose of resumption of operation and production and their family members, including spouse, parents, children under the age of 18, parents-in-law, and adult children, spouses of adult children, unmarried partners who really need to go to China.

2.Family members of Chinese citizens or relatives of foreign nationals with permanent residence status in China, including spouses, parents, parents-in-law, children, spouses of children, siblings, grandparents and grandchildren.

3.Foreign nationals engaged in crew activities.

4.Foreign high-level talents and urgently needed specialized talents.

5.Foreign nationals who go to China for funerals or visits to critically ill relatives.

6.Foreign nationals bearing valid "Invitation Letter(TE)"or "Verification Letter of Invitation",or Original "Invitation Letter for Foreign Experts"(外国专家来华邀请函原件) can apply for the corresponding type of visa.

7.Foreign students who intend to study in China for a period of more than 180 days, and their family members.

Note: 

a,  Visa applications for travel, medical treatment, short-term study (X2 visa) and transit visa are still suspended currently.

b, Foreign nationals with permanent residence status in China do not need to apply for a new visa.

c, Holders of all kinds of valid residence permits do not need to apply for a new visa.

d, Holders of valid APEC business travel cards (not including virtual card) to engage in business activities in China do not need to apply for a new visa.

e, All the passengers bound for China are still required to apply for the Health Code following the requirements of the Embassy before going to China.

III  Documents required

1.Visa Application form and photo: Visa Application form completed online and recently-taken colour passport photo against a light background(front view, without a crown, size: 48mm×33mm).

2.Original passport with at least six months of remaining validity and blank visa pages, and a photocopy of the bio data page.

3.Certificate of lawful stay or residence permit in Sri Lankan for foreigners from third countries.

4.Electronic itinerary of air tickets or air ticket reservation to China(if ).

Note: 

a, For applying emergency humanitarian visa, such as for funerals or visits to critically ill relatives in China, the applicants shall submit the identity documents of the deceased or ill relative(e.g. foreigner's passport, etc.), death certificate or a certificate of diagnosis, and critical illness notice issued by a hospital, proof of kinship, etc.

b, Students who want to apply for X1 visa for long-term academic education shall submit original ‘Visa Application for Study in China’(JW201/202) , original‘Admission Notice’/‘Certificate of Permission to Return Campus’

For students who got admission in 2019:  Certificate of Permission to Return Campus

For students who got admission in 2020/2021: JW201/202(that year), Admission Notice(that year), Certificate of Permission to Return Campus

For students who get admission in 2022:  JW201/202(that year), Admission Notice

If you can not submit above originial documents, the enrollment Agencies in China should send the information of the students(please mention the name of the school, name and passport number of each student in the email)using designated email address  to consulate_lk@mfa.gov.cn.


IV  Application Procedure

During the epidemic period, the embassy will not directly accept visa applications without preview. Please be sure to apply for a visa according to the following procedures:

1.Visa applicants are required to log on http://cova.cs.mfa.gov.cn/ and fill in the visa application form online. 

2.Download and print the application form (full form), sign on the confirmation page, and send it together with other required documents to consulatevisa.lk@gmail.com  for preview.

3.After the preview is finished, copy of pickup receipt will be sent to you. Please submit the original passport and original application documents to the Chinese Embassy Visa Office with the copy of the pickup receipt.

V Processing time

Visa processing generally takes 4 working days (from the date of submitting the original passport and application documents to visa office). Please arrange your time properly.
