Chinese Aid for 2025 School Uniform Material Arrives in Sri Lanka

On the afternoon of December 10, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan Ministry of Education jointly held a welcoming ceremony for the arrival of school uniform materials donated by China for the 2025 academic year of Sri Lankan. Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong and Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya attended the event at the port to receive the shipment. Other attendees included Deputy Minister of Education Mr. Madhura Senevirathne, Secretary to the Ministry of Education Mr. Nalaka Kaluwewa, Secretary to the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Safety and Cooperative Development, Mr. Vimalenthirarajah and Chinese Embassy Counselor Tang Yandi.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya emphasized China's support for education in Sri Lanka goes beyond material aid, reflecting shared values and a mutual commitment to the future of youth. This generous donation from China has effectively eased the financial burden on the government. On behalf of the Sri Lankan government, Dr. Amarasuriya expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their strong support.

Ambassador Qi Zhenhong noted that the enduring relationship between China and Sri Lanka is built on mutual respect and support, with the two nations standing as true friends and partners. He stated that this donation reflects China’s steadfast commitment to Sri Lanka’s development. In recent years, China has supported Sri Lanka’s education sector through various initiatives, including school uniform material projects, the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship, and the project of implementing the Digital Transformation of General Education in Sri Lanka. Ambassador Qi emphasized that the school uniforms material is beyond material aid only, it is a symbol of hope, reaffirming China’s commitment to support Sri Lanka on its path to prosperity.
