From May to November 2024, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka organized a series of events "Chinese Culture Meets Students in Sri Lanka" in 11 schools across the island, reaching over 10,000 students and sparking enthusiastic responses.
As a new brand of cultural event initiated by the Embassy, the series included a diverse range of activities such as photo exhibitions of Chinese culture, Chinese cultural lectures, workshops on Chinese calligraphy, martial arts and paper cutting, screenings of Chinese documentaries and films, and donations of Chinese books. A "China through My Eyes" competition of creation was also held during the events.
On November 7th, the award ceremony, "China through My Eyes" competition, serving as the closing event, was successfully held. Mr. Ruwanchandra, Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation of Sri Landa, and Ms. Ji Lili, Counselor of the Embassy attended the ceremony and presented awards to 48 Sri Lankan students who won prizes in various categories including writing, calligraphy, paper cutting, and painting etc.
Mr. Ruwanchandra stated that the friendship between Sri Lanka and China has a long history. He expressed gratitude to the embassy for holding this event, which provided Sri Lankan students with an opportunity to learn about China and Chinese culture, thus promoting cultural exchange, mutual learning, and people-to-people connectivity between the two countries.
Dasanayaka, a student representative, expressed her admiration for China as a great power and her deep love for the rich and diverse Chinese culture. She shared her dream of studying and traveling in China and her excitement about winning the essay competition, feeling one step closer to realizing her dream.
