On August 30, 2024, the 9th Huawei "Seeds for the Future" program was officially launched in Colombo. Chinese Ambassador, Qi Zhenhong, attended the event and delivered a speech. The event was also attended by Sri Lankan Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha, representatives from the Ministry of Education, university deans, and Huawei Sri Lanka CEO Zhang Jinze, among other distinguished guests.
Ambassador Qi introduced the specific measures taken by the Chinese government to promote educational cooperation between China and Sri Lanka, emphasizing that China remains committed to scientific innovation and talent cultivation, in line with President Xi Jinping’s directive that "development is the top priority, talent is the primary resource, and innovation is the primary driving force." He also praised Huawei's commendable efforts in cultivating technical talent worldwide through its "Seeds for the Future" program.
Sri Lankan Minister of Education, Premjayantha, shared his unforgettable experience visiting Huawei's headquarters in China and praised Huawei's technological contributions to global smart city development. He expressed his gratitude to Chinese companies for providing Sri Lankan students with invaluable opportunities to engage with cutting-edge technologies and participate in global exchanges.
A student representative expressed his excitement and pride in receiving this opportunity, vowing to make the most of it to learn about the world's latest technologies and contribute to the friendly relations between Sri Lanka and China.
The "Seeds for the Future" program is an educational training initiative by Huawei that offers outstanding university students worldwide opportunities to learn about cutting-edge technology and engage in cross-cultural exchanges. This year, Huawei selected six outstanding students from nine Sri Lankan universities to participate in a study and exchange program which will be hold in China for weeks.
