Instruction on Visa  for China(Mainland only)for Sri Lankan Passport Holders

I. Basic Documents

1.Passport

Original passport with at least six months of remaining validity and blank visa pages, and a photocopy of the passport's data page and the photo page if it is separate.

2.Visa Application Form and Photo

One completed Visa Application Form with a recently-taken color passport photo (bare-head, full face) against a light background attached.

3.Proof of legal stay or residence status (applicable to non-Sri Lankan)

If you are not applying for the visa in the country of your nationality, you must provide the original and photocopy of your valid certificate or visa of stay, residence, employment or student status, or other valid certificates of legal staying of the country where you are currently staying.

4.Photocopy of previous Chinese passports or previous Chinese visas (applicable to those who were Chinese nationals and have obtained foreign nationality)

If you are applying for a Chinese visa for the first time, you should provide your previous Chinese passport and a photocopy of its data page.

If you have obtained Chinese visas before and want to apply for a Chinese visa with a renewed foreign passport that does not contain any Chinese visa, you should present the photocopy of the previous passport's data page and the photo page if it is separate, as well as the previous Chinese visa page. (If your name on the current passport differs from that on the previous one, you must provide an official document of name change.)

II. Supporting Documents

C Visa

1.A letter of guarantee issued by a foreign transport company.

    2.An invitation letter issued by a relevant entity in China.

     3.Other supporting documents requested by visa officer.

D Visa

The original and photocopy of the Confirmation of Foreigners' Permanent Residence Status in China (外国人在中国永久居留身份确认表)issued by the Ministry of Public Security of China.

We kindly remind you that:

Holders of D Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people's governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits.

F Visa

1.Normal procedure:printout or photocopy of "InvitationLetter(TE)"or "Verification Letter of Invitation",or Original "Invitation Letter for Foreign Experts"(外国专家来华邀请函原件).

In Special Case:In case of any of the following situations, the applicant can be exempted from "InvitationLetter(TE)"or "Verification Letter of Invitation",only submit the invitation letter issued by the inviting entity or individual in China:

(1)For the applicant who is working in a Cabinet ministry of Sri Lanka, providing a letter indicating his/her employment status issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka.

(2)Providing photocopies of previous F or M Visa to visit China for more than two times within recent two years, as well as photocopies of entry and exit stamps.

In the process of acceptance, the consular officer may request the applicant to come to the embassy for an interview, or ask the applicant to come to the Chinese Embassy to show entry and exit stamps after returning to Sri Lanka.The applicant should cooperate with the consular officer's request.

2.An invitation letter issued by a relevant entity or individual in China should contain:

    (a)Information on the applicant(full name, gender,date of birth, passport number etc.);

    (b)Information on the planned visit(purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, itinerary,relations between the applicant and the inviting entity or individual, financial source for expenditures);

(c)Information on the inviting entity or individual(name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual);

(d)The inviting party should make clear in the letter that the applicant shall abide by Chinese laws and regulations during his/her stay in China and depart China on time.

3.A supporting letter from the organization which the applicant serves in(organization address, telephone number and the detailed visiting purpose should be correctly and clearly stated)

 4.Financial support documents.

G Visa

 Applicants should follow the L Visa requirements for G Visa.

J1 Visa

1.Visa Notification Letter issued by the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.

2.An official letter issued by the media organization for which the journalist works.

We kindly remind you that:

Holders of J1 Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people's governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits.

J2 Visa

1.Visa Notification Letter issued by the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China or other authorized units in China.

2.An official letter issued by the media organization for which the journalist works.

L Visa

For Group Tourist Visa (at least 5 persons)

   1."Invitation Letter for Tourist Group"issued by authorized travel agencies(团体旅游邀请函).

   2.A letter from the local travel agency or other travel organizer.

3.Travel itinerary.

4.A supporting letter from the organization which the applicant serves in(if applicable).

   5.Copy of latest month personal bank statement,which should prove that the applicant has at least 100 USD each day during his/her stay in China.(only 1 page per person).

For Individual Tourist Visa (Please provide either A or B or C kind of Documents)

A:

1."Invitation Letter for Tourist"issued by authorized travel agencies(个人旅游邀请函).

    2.Copy of latest month personal bank statement,which should prove that the applicant has at least 100 USD each day during his/her stay in China.

B:

1.Invitation letter from the travel agency or other travel organizer in China.

2.Hotel reservation with complete payment.

3.Travel itinerary in China.

    4.Round air tickets.

    5.Copy of latest month personal bank statement,which should prove that the applicant has at least 100 USD each day during his/her stay in China.

C:

1.An invitation letter issued by a individual in China.

    2.Photocopy of Chinese ID or foreign passport and residence permit of the inviting individual.

    3.Travel itinerary in China

4.Round air tickets.

5.Copy of latest month personal bank statement,which should prove that the applicant has at least 100 USD each day during his/her stay in China.

The invitation letter should contain:

    (a)Information on the applicant(full name, gender,date of birth , passport number etc.);

    (b)Information on the planned visit(purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, itinerary,relations between the applicant and the inviting entity or individual, financial source for expenditures);

(c)Information on the inviting entity or individual(name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual);

(d)The inviting party should make clear in the letter that the applicant shall abide by Chinese laws and regulations during his/her stay in China and depart China on time.

M Visa

1.Normal procedure:printout or photocopy of "InvitationLetter(TE)"or "Verification Letter of Invitation",or Original "Invitation Letter for Foreign Experts"(外国专家来华邀请函原件).

In Special Case:In case of any of the following situations, the applicant can be exempted from "InvitationLetter(TE)"or "Verification Letter of Invitation",only submit the ordinary invitation letter issued by the inviting entity or individual in China:

(1)For the applicant who is working in a Cabinet ministry of Sri Lanka, providing a letter indicating his/her employment status issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka.

(2)Providing original and photocopies of Certificate of Incorporation, personal bank statement of at least 8 million rupees deposit or a booklet of share certificates of at least 8 million rupees in the latest three months or more.

(3)For the applicant who have good records of visiting China:

 (a)Providing photocopies of previous M or F Visa to visit China for more than two times and good records of visiting China within recent two years, as well as photocopies of entry and exit stamps.

(b)Providing photocopies of previous visa to China for more than three times and good records of visiting China within recent two years, and providing relevant records of entry and exit, proof of commercial activities in China,such as contracts and current accounts etc.

for the applicant who have good records of visiting China for more than 3 times within 2 years, In the process of acceptance, the consular officer may request the applicant to come to the embassy for an interview, or ask the applicant to come to the Chinese Embassy to show entry and exit stamps after returning to Sri Lanka.The applicant should cooperate with the consular officer's request.

2.Documents on the commercial activity issued by a trade partner in China, or trade fair invitation or other invitation letters issued by relevant entity or individual(applicable to frequent travelers to China)

The invitation letter should contain:

(a)Information on the applicant(full name, gender,date of birth , passport number etc.);

    (b)Information on the planned visit(purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, itinerary,relations between the applicant and the inviting entity or individual, financial source for expenditures);

(c)Information on the inviting entity or individual(name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual);

(d)The inviting party should make clear in the letter that the applicant shall abide by Chinese laws and regulations during his/her stay in China and depart China on time.

3.A supporting letter from the organization which the applicant serves in(organization address, telephone number and the detailed visiting purpose should be correctly and clearly stated)

4.Less than three pages of the copy of local company bank statement (please bring the latest 3 months original one)

5.Copy of Certificate of Incorporation.

Q1 Visa

For family reunion, the following documents are required:

(1) An invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen with a Chinese permanent residence permit who lives in China. The invitation letter should contain:

 (a)Information on the applicant(full name, gender,date of birth, passport number etc.);

    (b) Information on the visit(purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, intended duration of residence, relations between the applicant and the inviting individual, financial source for expenditures);

(c)Information on the inviting individual(name, contact telephone number, address , official stamp, signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual);

(d)The inviting party should make clear in the letter that the applicant shall abide by Chinese laws and regulations during his/her stay in China and leave China on time.

(2) Photocopy of Chinese ID of the inviting individual or foreign passport and permanent residence permit.

(3)Original and photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by Public Security Bureau or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship of family members between applicant and inviting individual.

"Family members" refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.

For foster care, the following documents are required:

(1)Foster entrustment notarization issued by Chinese Embassies/Consulates General in foreign countries or Foster Care Power of Attorney notarized and authenticated in the country of residence or in China.

(2)Original and photocopy of the consignor's passport(s), as well as the original and photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by Public Security Bureau or notarized certification of kinship) notarized and authenticated certification showing the relationship between parents or guardians and children.

(3) A letter of consent on foster care issued by the trustee living in China who has agreed to provide foster care services and a photocopy of the ID of the trustee.

(4) A photocopy of the certificate indicating the permanent residence status abroad of the parent(s) when the child was born, provided that either or both parents of the child are Chinese citizens.

Holders of Q1 Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people's governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits.

All Q1 Visa applicants should present themselves to this Embassy for visa interviews.

Q2 Visa

(1) An invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen with a Chinese permanent residence permit who lives in China. The invitation letter should contain:

(a)Information on the applicant(full name, gender,date of birth, passport number etc.);

    (b)Information on the visit (purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, intended duration of residence, relations between the applicant and the inviting individual, financial source for expenditures);

(c)Information on the inviting individual(name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual);

(d)The inviting party should make clear in the letter that the applicant shall abide by Chinese laws and regulations during his/her stay in China and leave China on time.

(2)Original and photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by Public Security Bureau or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship of family members between applicant and inviting individual.

"Family members" refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.

(3)Photocopy of Chinese ID or foreign passport and permanent residence permit of the inviting individual.

(4) Round air tickets.

All Q2 Visa applicants should present themselves to this Embassy for visa interviews.

R Visa

The applicant should submit relevant certification in accordance with relevant regulations, and meet the relevant requirements of the competent authorities of the Chinese government on high-level talents and individuals with special skills urgently needed by China.

S1 Visa

(1) An invitation letter from the inviting individual (a foreigner who stays or resides in China for work or studies) which contains:

(a)Information on the applicant(full name, gender,date of birth, passport number etc.);

    (b) Information on the visit(purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, intended duration of residence, relations between the applicant and the inviting individual, financial source for expenditures);

(c)Information on the inviting individual(name, contact telephone number , address , official stamp, signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual);

(d)The inviting party should make clear in the letter that the applicant shall abide by Chinese laws and regulations during his/her stay in China and leave China on time.

(2) A photocopy of the inviting individual's passport and residence permit

(3)Original and photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by Public Security Bureau or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship of immediate family members between applicants and inviting individual.

"immediate family members" refers to spouses, parents, sons or daughters under the age of 18, parents-in-law.

We kindly remind you that:

Holders of S1 Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people's governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits.

All S1 Visa applicants should present themselves to this Embassy for visa interviews.

S2 Visa

For visiting family members for a short period, the following documents are required:

(1)An invitation letter issued by the inviting individual (a foreigner who stays or resides in China for work or studies) which contains:

(a)Information on the applicant(full name, gender,date of birth, passport number etc.);

    (b)Information on the visit (purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, intended duration of residence, relations between the applicant and the inviting individual, financial source for expenditures);

(c)Information on the inviting individual(name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual);

(d)The inviting party should make clear in the letter that the applicant shall abide by Chinese laws and regulations during his/her stay in China and leave China on time.

(2) A photocopy of the inviting individual's (a foreigner who stays or lives in China for work or studies) passport and residence permit

(3)Original and Photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship of family members between the applicant and the inviting individual.

"Family members" refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.

(4) Round air tickets.

All S2 Visa applicants should present themselves to this Embassy for visa interviews.

X1 Visa

(1) Original and photocopy of the Admission Letter issued by a school or other entities in China.

(2) Original and photocopy of "Visa Application for Study in China" (Form JW201 or Form JW202).

(3)Scholarship winners should present certification of their scholarship ownership. Self-support applicants are required to present bank statements. The bank statement should prove that the applicant has at least 2500USD each year for his/her study in China.

(4) Police Clearance Certificate.

(5)Physical examination report from local state-owned hospital and the copy.

Holders of X1 Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people's governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits.

All X1 Visa applicants should present themselves to this Embassy for visa interviews.

X2 Visa

X2 visa applicants should follow the X1 visa requirements.

All X2 visa applicants should present themselves to this Embassy for visa interviews.

Z Visa

1.(1)One of the following documents for those who shall stay for more than 90 days after entry:

(a) Photocopy of Notification Letter of Foreigner's Work Permit in the People's Republic of China(中华人民共和国外国人工作许可通知)issued by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs,P.R.China.

(b) Original and photocopy of Alien Employment License of the People's Republic of China(中华人民共和国外国人就业许可证书)issued by Ministry of Labour and Social Security of P.R.China.

(c)Original and photocopy of Permit for Foreign Experts Working in China(外国专家来华工作许可证) issued by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs,P.R.China.

(d)Photocopy of Registration Certificate of Foreign Enterprises Permanent Office in China"外国(地区)企业常驻代表机构登记证"issued by the State Administration for Industry and commerce,P.R.China.

(e)Original and photocopy of an approval document for commercial performances issued by the Chinese government authorities for cultural affairs.

(f)Original and photocopy of Letter of Invitation for Foreigners Engaged in Offshore Petroleum Operations in the People's Republic of China(外国人在中华人民共和国从事海上石油作业邀请信) issued by China National Offshore Oil Corporation.

(2)Physical examination report from local state-owned hospital and the copy

(3)Police Clearance Certificate

2.(1)One of the following documents for those who shall stay no more than 90 days after entry:

(a) Original and photocopy of Alien Employment License of the People's Republic of China(中华人民共和国外国人就业许可证书)and Approval of Short-Term Employment For Foreigners Working in China(外国人在中国短期工作证明) issued by Chinese government authorities for Human Resources and Social Security, both original and copy.

(b) An approval document for commercial performances and Approval of Short-Term Employment For Foreigners Working in China (外国人在中国短期工作证明) issued by the Chinese government authorities for cultural affairs, both original and copy.

(2)Physical examination report from local state-owned hospital and the copy

(3)Police Clearance Certificate

We kindly remind you that:

Holders of Z Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people's governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits.

III. Special Reminder

(1) The invitation letter may be in the form of fax, photocopy or computer printout, but the consular officer may require the applicant to submit the original of the invitation letter.

(2) If necessary, the consular officer may require the applicant to provide other proof documents or supplementary materials, or require an interview with the applicant.

(3) The consular officer will decide on whether or not to issue the visa and on its validity, duration of stay and number of entries in light of specific conditions of the applicant.

(4) The Consular Office do not provide One-Day Service from Feb 15th, 2016.

(5)"Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Unit"(被授权单位邀请函)has been renamed "InvitationLetter(TE)","Confirmation Letter of Invitation"from Duly Authorized Unit (被授权单位邀请确认函)has been renamed "Verification Letter of Invitation",from April 16th,2018.

Issued to foreign crew members of means of international transportation, including aircraft, trains and ships, or motor vehicle drivers engaged in cross-border transport activities, or to the accompanying family members of the crew members of the above-mentioned ships.

D

Issued to those who intend to reside in China permanently.

F

Issued to those who intend to go to China for exchanges, visits, study tours and other activities.

G

Issued to those who intend to transit through China.

J1

Issued to resident foreign journalists of foreign news organizations stationed in China. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days.

J2

Issued to foreign journalists who intend to go to China for short-term news coverage. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

L

Issued to those who intend to go to China as a tourist.

M

Issued to those who intend to go to China for commercial and trade activities.

Q1

Issued to those who are family members of Chinese citizens or of foreigners with Chinese permanent residence and intend to go to China for family reunion, or to those who intend to go to China for the purpose of foster care. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days.

 "Family members" refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.  

Q2

Issued to those who intend to visit their relatives who are Chinese citizens residing in China or foreigners with permanent residence in China. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

R

Issued to those who are high-level talents or whose skills are urgently needed in China.

S1

Issued to the spouses, parents, sons or daughters under the age of 18 years and parents-in-law of foreigners working or studying in China for the purpose of long-term visit, or to those who intend to visit China for other private reasons (intended duration of stay exceeding 180 days).

S2

Issued to those who intend to visit their family members who are foreigners working or studying in China. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

"family members" refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.

X1

Issued to those who intend to study in China for a period of more than 180 days.

X2

Issued to those who intend to study in China for a period of no more than 180 days.

Z

Issued to those who intend to work in China.
